We have a great new working space available for any small-to-medium-sized business looking for a home in the area. It’s available at about 20 per cent below market price, it’s brand new and can be fitted out to your own specification, if the lucky applicant is quick enough. Our builders start in mid-February and we want to shape the working environment to meet the new occupant’s needs.
And it’s all in a good cause.
So what’s the catch? Well, there isn’t one.
We are converting the ground floor of the Whitco headquarters (roughly 60 square metres) in Cottingham Way, Thrapston to accommodate another business. The new premises will come fully fitted out with internet, phone lines, office furniture and access a dining area shared with the Whitco team that works upstairs.
On opening day, the new occupants can just move in, sit down and start work.
The project is being done to help the local community and to raise funds for Jeff’s Way.
We set up Jeff’s Way in 2018 in memory of Whitco founder Jeff Whitaker who had died earlier that year. Jeff’s Way supports three pillars that supported Jeff’s career: education, security and opportunity.
With the help of colleagues, suppliers and supporters from far and near we have raised some £21,000 over the last two years. So far, we have donated thousands of pounds to good causes that exemplify those three pillars: the RNLI, Northampton College and the Peterborough Sea Cadets.
Last year, after a lot of thought, we took the decision to move Jeff’s Way on to the next stage. To that end, we registered Jeff’s Way in December as a Community Interest Company – a CIC for short.
A CIC is a special kind of business and not a charity. It has social objectives and its surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community. There are no profits in the sense of a traditional business and no shareholders or shareholders’ dividends.
